Dmitri Hvorostovsky would have been fifty-eight years old today. The name of this truly outstanding baritone, who sadly died almost three years ago, is being celebrated throughout the world, in part thanks to his family and friends.
On 26 October at 19.00 at the Mariinsky II there will be an evening in memory of the singer featuring Hibla Gerzmava, Ildar Abdrazakov, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Aigul Khismatullina, Vladislav Kupriyanov and the Mariinsky Orchestra. The concert will be conducted by maestro Valery Gergiev, who enjoyed a warm artistic partnership with the singer
On 29 October and 1 November devotees of opera and St Petersburg music-lovers may look forward to an extraordinary event – Verdi's Don Carlo featuring Anna Netrebko (Elisabeth of Valois), Ekaterina Semenchuk (Eboli), Yusif Eyvazov (Don Carlo), Ildar Abdrazakov (Filippo II) and Mikhail Petrenko (the Grand Inquisitor)
On 2 October (14 October, New Style) 1860 St Petersburg saw the re-opening of the Mariinsky Theatre – a symbol of Russian theatre culture. In the coming two weeks, audiences may look forward to exceptional programmes while the theatre's social networks will be screening a video collection about the history an the building and informative videos featuring stars of the company who will relate interesting facts and the amazing history of this monument of architecture. In the foyer of the Mariinsky-II there will be an exhibition dedicated to the Mariinsky Theatre's collaboration with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. To celebrate the theatre's anniversary, on 14 October there will be a performance of Swan Lake starring Viktoria Tereshkina and Kimin Kim
